The Programme for 2007-2008

Scotus College will continue to offer support for Catholic Teachers during 2007-2008. Along with the Evenings of Reflection offered in Advent and Lent, there will be CPD opportunities during both the First and Second Semesters.

Fr. John Hughes, vice-rector of Scotus, has lectured for a number of years in Religious Education and Spiritual & Pastoral Formation for Teachers, and will deliver two series for teachers. These sessions aim to be practically supportive of teachers working in an increasingly stressful environment and also to provide an awareness of resources which may be helpful in the challenging climate in education today.

Too Blessed to be Stressed?

There will be three sessions which will deal specifically with the experience of stress in the teaching environment. Our Christian heritage offers unique resources for dealing with this. On each of the three evenings, sources of stress will be explored and relevant Scriptural and Meditation Resources will be investigated as methods for managing stress.

Sessions will begin at 5.30pm (after tea/coffee) and finish by 7.00pm on the following evenings:
Tuesday, 2nd October; Wednesday, 24th October; Tuesday, 20th November.

The three evenings of the Second Semester will examine how the Church has evolved its thinking about Catholic Education, and will offer some critical reflection on the types of argument which are being employed to cast doubt on the worth of the Catholic sector.

Sessions will begin at 5.30pm (after tea/coffee) on the following evenings, and finish by 7.00pm. :
Tuesday, 22nd January; Wednesday, 13th February; Tuesday, 4th March.

In addition, there will be two Evenings of Recollection for Teachers, one in advent and one in lent, giving the teachers an opportunity to experience prayer and workshops with the college community.

The Academic Year 2008-2009

During the academic year 2008-2009, Fr. Hughes will be offering a couse on "Faith and Art", which will take place fortnightly on Monday evenings from 7.00pm-8.45pm.

The Advent Evening of Recollection for Teachers will be on Tuesday 16th December from 5.30pm-7.00pm, and the Lenten evening on Tuesday 24th March, at the same time.
